Feeling better is a better feeling...

A few friends have wondered how I was posting when I did as they were well aware what was going on in real life at those times. So, I thought I would share my answer here instead of in an email since I was probably going to get to it eventually anyway.

Back before I was pregnant I had the beginnings of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, coming from far too many years typing away at a keyboard and probably too many hours playing video games too. While pregnant, the symptoms worsened but I was hopeful that they would subside again afterwards. Unfortunately, a whole year later they had not. My family doctor finally agreed to send me for testing and the EMG came back clearly showing that I was severely affected on my right arm and mildly on my left (so mild I wasn't even aware). I met with a surgeon back earlier this year and he explained the operation to me. They were ready to proceed immediately, but I delayed due to some projects at work I wanted to be present for. Stupid me, I made myself worse! By the time surgery finally came, September 12th, I could barely feel my lower arm and fingers the majority of the time! So, while my wrist was being slit open for surgery, I scheduled my first post to go out because I was afraid surgery would delay things even more and I didn't want to wait any longer. One week out now and I feel great. The pain is minimal and the cut is healing beautifully, although I still can't grip a doorknob or hold a pen very well. Next step... driving again!

In addition, our little girl has had a horrible time with ear infections. She had her first at 4 months old and 7 more up till now at nearly 22 months. Earlier this summer we met with a specialist and the inevitable happened; she was a candidate for tubes in her ears. I knew before getting there that this would be the case and, while nervous, I was happy to finally find an answer to her problems. So, while waiting for a call from the hospital I joked that everything would happen at once, and sure enough it did! Her surgery was scheduled only 3 days after mine! And, she did super awesome! She was the first one of the day so we were there before 7am. She had to be fasting and it didn't seem to bother her. because the new surroundings kept her occupied Afterwards she jumped right into Daddy's arms to snuggle and once we were discharged we went for breakfast and she was back to her old self - no, better than her old self! I spoke with her daycare and since she was so happy and energetic we dropped her off for nap and play time. When we went to pick her up you'd have never guessed she had been in an operating room earlier in the day. She came tearing across the playground with rosy red cheeks and a huge smile on her face. And, I'm happy to say we are already noticing an improvement in her hearing, enunciation and volume. Her doctor told me that they took out a lot of thick fluid, so her hearing had clearly been muffled and compromised. I wouldn't say her speech was delayed, but she was definitely on the slower end. Now that her ears are all clear, she is making leaps and bounds in only a few days time.Time and time again, this quote describes our daughter perfectly:

"And though she be but little, she is fierce... "
Shakespeare

So, was I sitting there on hospitals posting while all of this went on? No! Absolutely not. I used scheduled postings as a way of staying on top of things. It's extremely convenient and no one is the wiser... except, now you know.

Till next time.
