Sometimes, all you need is a new dress!
On the last day of my latest work-widow adventure, my LO’s playdate was cancelled so I had some time to (desperately try and) kill. I’ve had a gift card for one of my favorite clothing stores burning a hole in my wallet since Christmas, so I decided to take a look and see what I could find. I usually go to their liquidation outlet, but this time I hit their regular shop since it was closer to the rest of our errands and I am so glad that I did!
After a quick look through the racks I remembered that I have ben hemorrhaging money lately, with car repairs and a vacation in our midst, so I tried to think of what I actually needed. Underwear, I need new underwear; both practical and necessary! A salesgirl saw me heading over to the lingerie section and offered up some help as she could see the LO was being a bit of a handful. She explained that the style I had come to love had gone through some design changes and cautioned me that the feedback had not been 100% positive. Good to know. At 5/35$ I wasn’t planning to buy more than that anyhow so I picked out some styles (like black, black on black and another black just in case) and handed them to the salesgirl so that I could take a minute to try and calm my daughter down. She smiled and said if I had the time, they have a liquidation section as well and not only was everything 70% off but they had a promotion for an additional 20% off.
But I don’t need anything!! Ok fine, twist my arm, I’ll look! I can’t help it!
Sweaters, nice but it’s almost Spring…
Pants, I have most of the ones I like already and I feel bloated…
Sexy lingerie… moving right along…
Dresses… party dresses... I don’t need another one… but, wait, is that the one I’ve had my eye on since Fall? The one I never even bothered to try on because I couldn’t justify the price? But now it’s 90% off! (Note: 70+20 does not actually equal 90 with discounts applied this way, more like 76, but who’s counting)
Wait, what’s the LO doing? Playing with oversized bras – fantastic!
Now, do they have my size? What is my size? I don’t even remember the last time I bought a dress! Actually, I think it was when I was pregnant! There are only a few to choose from. This should fit; grab the LO and off to the changing room!
I should point out that I hate trying on clothes. I hate the lighting. I hate the mirrors. I hate the music they play. I hate that they knock on the door when your boobs are hanging out. I hate that my now 2yr old can open the door at the most inopportune moment. But, the dress is gorgeous!
As usual, I turn my back to the mirror and slide the dress on over my head. With no one to help zip it up, unless I ask a complete stranger, it was the only way. It’s too tight over the boobs, it will never fit! Scoop, lift, and… it falls smoothly into place! Turn around and face the mirror, this is going to be awful! But, it’s beautiful! Perfectly sized up top, cinched waist and lightly flowing at the bottom. Not too short and not too long. Turn to one side, and then the other. Hold out the fabric and… it has pockets! I love pockets! What’s wrong with it? There has to be something wrong with it! But, there isn’t. Not one single thing. Tight enough to show I’m a woman, but loose enough to show I’m a lady too! And, after all of the discounts, only 35$ or so! I was so excited, I could twirl! And, I promise you I did… many times!
I know that what’s most important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it, but sometimes that woman just wants to feel like a princess! We have a wedding coming up and this is definitely what I will be wearing! Pictures to come, later, once I have the whole ensemble!
