Oh, happy day!

Oh, happy day!

It has been 6 months since I had my sleeve surgery, and I am happy to report that I am over the moon with my progress!

Yesterday I spoke with my dietician and she told me that I was on track and she was happy with my daily intakes of protein, carbs, and such. She said that they expect sleeve patients to lose 60% of their excess body weight by one-year post- surgery, and at only 6 months out I have already lost 52%! She said that she cannot predict the future, but she feels very strongly that I will surpass the 60% in the next 6 months. Fingers crossed!

Today I spoke with my endocrinologist, and my only disappointment was that she couldn’t see me in person so that I could give her a big hug! Stupid Covid! This doctor had managed my diabetes while I was pregnant and has followed me through to today. She is also the one who strongly encouraged me to consider the sleeve and she wrote my referral close to 3yrs ago now. Today, she was happy to inform me that my A1C levels were 5.4 and my fasting glucose was 5.5 which means that I am seemingly free of diabetes! Halleluiah! I still take one pill a day to manage my sugars, so I must stop taking that now and test again in 3 months to be certain. She technically should discharge me from her care now but agreed to follow up with me one last time considering the circumstances of Covid and needing to wean off that last pill. Otherwise, she said that my GP can easily manage my thyroid issues. It’s bittersweet because I absolutely love this doctor, and it’s hard to find a good one these days, but it just means that I am healthy enough not to need her anymore. Plus, who knows, I may run into her at the next Madonna concert!

As I told the dietician yesterday, if I didn’t lose another pound, I would still have accomplished my goals of being healthier and reversing my diabetes. The rest is just a bonus now!

Oh, and the cherry on top of all this? My new antidepressants are amazing and have been working wonders! Weaning off of the old ones has been pretty smooth as well, so I should be completely off of them by the end of the month.
