Product Review: Think & Learn Rocktopus by Fisher-Price
Recently I saw that our Indigo Bookstore would be holding a free event, for children aged 3-6, introducing a relatively new toy from Fisher-Price called the “Think & Learn Rocktopus”. I was excited because a lot of the events they hold are usually aimed towards slightly older children and we never really get to participate, and because getting to try something before you buy is priceless!
I immediately registered for the event and looked up the toy as well. It wasn’t easy to find as it has only been out for a few months, but I managed to find it on Amazon at about 55USD or 77CAD!
Quite a steep price tag, so it had better be good!

As you can see from the picture, it is super cute! But aside from cuteness, it is a mini music lovers dream! The toy boasts 15 musical instruments, 5 musical styles, and 3 separate ways to play. It incorporates Math, Music and Play at an appropriate level. It has fun lights and colors that help guide you through rhythmic patterns, or you can create your own unique sound too! It also helps children learn to focus and pay attention as instructions are given through the game itself.
And, it was really kind of fun, even for me! Whichever setting we were on was similar to “Bop-It”; place the instrument pods into the arms and follow a sequence of colors while tapping on the matching pod until you make a mistake and then you start all over again. It sounds basic, but it’s not! Besides, it’s for 3-6yr olds!
Anyhow, our LO is a bit young for it still at 2 3/4, but she definitely loves music (or “mick” as she mistakenly calls it) and this toy was certainly going on her birthday list in hopes that someone else would buy it for her!
At least, that was the intention.
About halfway through the event, the host announced that they would be raffling off the two samples in return for a small donation to a children’s charity. Any amount counted so I reached into my pocket and found 4$ in change. Why not, right? I went and filled in my raffle slip and before leaving I mentioned to DH that I didn’t see anyone else jumping up to donate so maybe we would get lucky! Of course, we hadn’t stayed the whole way through either, but you never know!
And, sure enough, we won! They called me late this afternoon to come and pick up our prize! I would have gone right away but as I am currently work widowed again my hands were kind of full. I will get it tomorrow right after work and hide it until the LO’s birthday! I can’t wait…. I mean, for her to open it!
I really need to find more ways to test new products, particularly for kids! Thank you Indigo and thank you Fisher-Price!! If you need us, call me!!!
