Happy 2nd Birthday to my favorite little lady!
I took the day off yesterday with the best of intentions, but things did not work out as planned... and that's OK!
Half way through the LO’s Birthday Party on Sunday, at a toddler amusement center, I became severely nauseous. I wasn’t sure what it was exactly, but I knew it was bad so I raced home and that’s when it hit… gastro! Yup, 11 long and endless hours of it! Thankfully we had taken 2 cars to get there so DH was able to stay and let the LO run around a while longer while I rested.
Monday morning I hear DH up in the bathroom. Sure enough, he had it now as well. Thankfully the LO was fine so off to daycare she went. We both missed work and stayed home to sleep; DH at the beginning of it all, myself in pain from head to toe and now coughing too.
Tuesday was supposed to be a quick check-up with the pediatrician followed by a birthday fun day; a visit to our old playgroup and an afternoon with some friends. But, I wasn’t the only one up coughing all night! Sure enough, medication prescribed for the LO. Antibiotics and inhalers for her cough… but her ears look great! No infection so the tubes are working! Ugh! Off to daycare for her, and then to the clinic for me; a chest X-ray to rule out pneumonia followed by muscle relaxants and pain killers for the muscle pain and cough syrup for the nightly hacking. Oh, and a doctor’s note to miss a second and third day of work because Mama needs rest!
So, while it wasn’t what it was meant to be… today is still her birthday. And even while she kicked and spewed penicillin at me and fought her inhalers too, she is still getting some special birthday sugar cookies at daycare today followed by some presents and a little bit of chocolate cake tonight too (possibly laced with banana flavored penicillin)!
And so, to the birthday girl! You are my heart, my soul and my precious treasure. You are my today, my tomorrow, and my forever. You are the reason I wake up in the morning and you alone give me a reason to smile every day. You are the reason my hair is greying, the dishes are piling up and the house is a mess. You are the reason I am learning to cope with change. All because you are my world, my everything. Thank you for choosing me to be your Mama. I have never loved anyone as much as I love you, and your cheeky little grin, each and every day!
Snuggle your babies while you can, because they grow up in the blink of an eye!

“Motherhood is a choice you make everyday, to put someone else's happiness and well-being ahead of your own, to teach the hard lessons, to do the right thing even when you're not sure what the right thing is...and to forgive yourself, over and over again, for doing everything wrong.” Donna Ball
