Product Review: It's getting chilly!
Summer seemed to linger on and then all of a sudden... it's FALL!
I spent Friday at home not feeling well, mostly due to being stressed and overwhelmed at the moment. The weather wasn't great, but Saturday was looking beautiful and we had plans to play tourist with DH's cousin visiting from Italy. We were heading out to a small Zoo for part of the day and they don't have a restaurant on site but they had a small cafeteria area with microwaves available, so I wanted to prepare something for lunch ahead of time.
I don't particularly love microwaved food, but chilli is one of those foods that tastes great any way you cook or re-heat it... plus, it wasn't something I needed to babysit over the stove; win-win! After dropping the LO off at daycare, I raced over to Wal-Mart and picked up a couple of Hunt's Chilli Mix packages, some meat and some corn. Really, this is all you need!
Depending on how I feel I add other things in as well, like peppers or onions for example, but I really wasn't picky this time around. This was a set it and forget it kind of day! And, it turned out great with plenty to store for another time.
That's what I love about these kits. With a big enough pot you can easily fit a good 3 meals worth in and nearly everything is pre-packaged for you!
I admit, I prefer my "from scratch" chilli best, but I just don't have time to make it anymore! This is a great runner up!
Tip: When making things like chilli (pasta sauce, stew, etc...) in a slow cooker, or on the stove, browning the meat gives it a nice caramelized taste and holds in the extra flavor... but, if you're in a rush, it is not necessary at all! In the case of this chilli, I didn't notice a difference in flavor whatsoever!
