Food Bucket List
In the coming months, my relationship with food will change, drastically. I have anticipated this change for about a year and a half now, but it's different when the months become weeks and you know that the weeks will inevitably turn into days; sooner rather than later.
And that is why I have started somewhat of a bucket list... a food bucket list to be precise. I am trying to enjoy a few of my favorite things, in the shortest amount of time, without being gluttonous in the process. I know that I won’t get to all of these, but I have checked off a couple in the last month and a few more are scheduled for the weeks to come.
I am including details below in case any of you want to check off some spots for me! And, if you do, let me know how it was!
The Food Bucket List (in no particular order)
Madame Cannoli Patisserie & CafĂ© – This is Montreal’s first cannoli bar and it just opened this summer. You can choose from 14 different fillings, 21 toppings and 21 Belgium chocolate sauces! Now, I have never been so I don’t know what I am missing, but I definitely would love to try 1… or 3!
Garde Manger – Owned by the amazing chef, Chuck Hughes, this restaurant is one of my absolute favorites! A number of years ago we began coming here annually for our anniversary, but the last time we ate here was in March 2016, the first and last time post parenthood. We already have our reservations made as you need to book a month in advance, and now I just need to confirm the babysitter! I am looking forward to this more than I can express, but it will be bittersweet… and oh so decadent!
Bramble House – The shop to go to when you are looking for goodies from across the pond! Scotch meat pies, flaky sausage rolls and empire cookies – oh my!
Pizza No.900 – A recent discovery, thanks to DH. My favorite was the “Brunch” which seems to have disappeared from their menu, but hopefully I can get one made if I make it there!
Orange Julep – Yes, the drink from the iconic Giant Orange is an absolute must! And is currently sitting in my fridge to savor for a few days, thank you DH.
Gus’ Red Hots – No website to share, but we checked this one off last month on our day trip to Plattsburgh; the “comfort food” I grew up on, Michigan’s! I won’t lie, they give me heartburn now, but I needed to have one last burn!
Benny BBQ – Another comfort food, rotisserie chicken and the most amazing BBQ sauce! But, I need to be specific. This small family owned chain has branched out over the years and the location I grew up on no longer delivers to where I live now, another branch does. And they are good, don’t get me wrong, but there is just something about their sauce that is a little bit off. So, if I am to have this one last time, I want the RIGHT one!
Campfire S’mores – We are camping this weekend… need I say s’more? (Ha, ha?)
Pumpkin Pie – Thanksgiving is coming, and if I am still working on this list you can bet that I will be scarfing these down while I still can, slathered in whipped cream!
Perfect runny Eggs Benedict – Not just once but 1000 times, please! I could eat these every day, but I would probably die from a heart attack if I did though.
Red Lobster – While this is on my list, it’s pretty fair to assume I won’t get there as we have none in Montreal. But we CAN make their biscuits from a box recipe now so… pass the biscuits please!
Fried Ice Cream – Ice cream and fried breading or batter, how could anything go wrong with that? Planning to knock this one off at my little pre-birthday 5 a 7 at 3 Amigos later this month!
Souvlaki – Not your food court stuff, the real authentic recipes from Marven’s, Arahova or Marathon Souvlaki. Unfortunately, the only place near us burned down so I will have to make a detour for one of these (and maybe some calamari while I’m there).
Vieux Port Steakhouse – While I am typically Keg Steakhouse girl, I have a fondness for the weekend Brunch served here. In fact, there is where we held the LO’s first birthday party (which seems so long ago now). They serve everything from eggs and bacon to a plethora of salads, seafood, roasts and everything in between. To top it all off, they also have a good assortment of desserts. No matter how far I get through my Bucket List, I plan to make this my last stop before the change of lifestyle journey begins.
Birthday Cake – This is an easy one, because I am turning the big 4-0 later this month and I am holding a 3 day long celebration, the first in a decade, to commemorate!
So, how did I do? Did I miss anything?
