Product Review: Newberry Girls

As soon as I knew we were having a little girl, I dreaded one particular toy market we were headed towards in the future… dolls! I had over 100 Barbie dolls growing up myself, with all the accessories, and now that I am on the other side of the purchasing I understand the 1000 other times I was simply told NO!

Dolls in general, Barbie or not, seem to have two prices – falling apart cheap and over the top pricy!

But through my research I found that there are a select few manufacturers that are priced affordably, right in the middle, and the dolls themselves really appealed to me; namely Sears Canada’s Newberry Doll. I figured in a few years I would go out to the Department Store and let her choose her very own, hoping she didn’t discover the difference between these dolls and their pricier counterparts.

And then Sears announced bankruptcy! Damnit!

I went online and found a couple of dolls that I liked the most and raced to Sears as soon as liquidations started. Of course, tons of accessories available but NO DOLLS! Everyone snatched them up as they were only 18-25$ at half price! Oh well, I figured I still had a couple of years to figure it out.

And then, without even knowing it, my BFF saved the day! Without me ever even mentioning it, she bought a doll and sent it to us for Christmas! Hurray!

Now I needed to buy accessories before Sears closed their doors! I can always get anything made for an 18” doll, but I wanted some of the originals too. Boxing Day, was the perfect time to go and grab a bunch so I raced over at 1pm sharp (when stores open their doors) to buy a few boxes. And then a few more a couple of days afterwards, and then a couple more today! And, DH even found a few dolls to choose from too so we bought the soccer playing doll I had originally wanted as well! She is an only child, so now she has a couple of friends! At least that’s how I justify the purchase!

Wait, he found a few dolls to choose from? Well, I had wanted to buy these for my nieces too and now was definitely our last chance! So, a couple more dolls into the cart with some accessories too, of course!

Phew! That’s a lot of pink! I am holding on to everything but the original gift for now. These will make perfect Christmas presents for next year, along with Valentine's Day, Easter and everything in between.

Thank you Sears, you will be remembered fondly! I wasn't a liquidation-only customer!
