Product Review: Flipping Christmas
Well, it's that time of year again. The wonderful, stressful, holiday season. I am trying not to let it get to me but it always does. My work, which used to be a pleasant distraction, is only adding to the pile this time around as well. That said, I have tried to keep spirits up at home for the LO and I think I am doing a pretty good job.
Last year I bought 2 very special hand made Christmas elves from a local, amazing, seamstress; both girls, lovingly named Danica (mine, a potential girl's name I will never use) and Marshmallow Snowflake (for the LO until she names the elf herself). This year, I added to the collection with our little blue-eared deer, named Larimar (after my favorite stone found in my favorite vacation spot). What I love most about the deer is that he is in the same fabric used for Marshmallow and they make a perfect pair! These two will always belong to my daughter, near or far. And, I guess next year it will be time to add a boy elf for DH since he doesn't have one yet! Any excuse is a good one, right? You can check out everything else she makes at Sprouting Jube Jube, especially the story on how these elves came to be (DIY Rag Doll Elf). Did I mention I have about 20 pieces of clothing by her for the LO as well? I might be obsessed, but I know I am in love!
In addition to the elves I finally bought a picture ledge I have had my eye on and have used it to display some holiday themed pictures as well as one of the LO with Santa from last year. I hope to continue this tradition and always include the previous picture(s) as she grows up. And, the best thing about it is that it doubles as a place to hang our stockings AND I can use the ledge year round for whatever holiday is in season. Money well spent at Ikea!
And our LO also has her very own, not much taller than her, Christmas tree! I went very simple with the decorations this year (and child proof) but she has one very special ornament and that is a "Santa Cam"! This was made by a friend I met in college. She was running a contest on Instagram and I won! It is personalized on the back as well. You can check out her out at Zombiemom5 Creations.
Can you tell I support local crafters?? Because I used to be one and just don't have the time (read, patience) these days, and because I love the unique finds too!
So, some things never seem to change (like having to go out and buy a gift for Grandma to give to the LO because.... yeah I dont have a reason why we have to do that) and some things will never be the same again (my British family traditions were lost along with my Nana years ago). But I hope that, together, we can come up with some traditions that make the holiday special for our little girl so that she has memories to look back and smile about.
Speaking of which, my precious little girl gave me a magical memory of my own today; on what would have been my Nana's birthday. Today she said "I love you" for the first time and followed it up with a huge hug and lots of kisses. It sounded more like "Isla Lou", but it brought tears to my eyes as I held her in my arms. In addition to the elves I had bought myself a little fox as well and, in honor of this memory, I have named her Isla Lou.
No matter what else happens this year, this was the best gift I could have asked for. And, once again, I am pretty sure my Nana was behind this... wherever she is.
