Jars of love (and cookies too)

Today my home becomes a warehouse to boxes of mason jars filled with love, aka cooking and baking ingredients. These jars are part of a fundraiser I decided to launch in order to help my BFF raise funds for her sons custom wheelchair.

Overall I didn't sell as many as I had hoped, but still far more than I had expected... if that makes sense. Mostly co-workers purchased them as they make great gifts, which is actually how this all came about to begin with!

I was looking for affordable Christmas gifts for daycare and that was when I found Recettes en Pot (Recipes in Jars). I need gifts for 10 teachers this year so costs add up quickly! Add a couple extra for home, some for co-workers and my order alone became 20 jars! They are only 10$ each, and half of that goes directly to the fund so it was a no-brainer. I could have supported another local cause of my choosing, as they are all listed on the website, but I decided to contact the company to start my own campaign instead because I knew that at least 100$ would be going towards the wheelchair.

In addition to the money going to my BFF, I was informed that for every jar sold they would donate the equivalent number of meals to a local food bank and for every dozen they would give me an additional jar to donate where I wish. I will be bringing these extra jars to the Children's Hospital in early January to donate to families who need some comfort food and just don't have the time.

So, while the funds will soon be heading where they were originally intended, they will now be used for other daily necessities. Why? Because their Elementary School came through in a BIG way!

First, their kindergarten class organized a sale, selling homemade Rice Krispies squares and playdough, raising 1000$ towards the wheelchair! But then, in a weird turn of events, a fund set up by their school district actually made the decision to cover the full cost of the wheelchair instead! The school then took the money they had raised and donated it back into the fund to help another family in need down the road, paying it forward!

And that is just fantastic!!! Every mom needs their village, and I couldn't be happier that she has found hers!

Now, to label all my jars for the teachers and prep the rest for Saturday pick-ups and deliveries!
